Synapse - Research Companion is a Chrome extension that helps users save and summarize web pages using the Gemini AI API. This privacy policy explains what data is collected and how it is used.
Synapse collects the following data:
Page content: When you click "Save & Summarize", the text content of the active web page is read and sent to the Gemini AI API to generate a summary.
Gemini API key: Your personal Gemini API key is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. It is never transmitted to any server other than Google's Gemini API.
Summaries and research cards: Summaries generated by Gemini AI are stored on a backend server to power your personal research dashboard.
Page content is sent solely to the Gemini API for the purpose of generating a summary. It is not stored beyond what is returned in the summary.
Your API key is used only to authenticate requests to the Gemini API on your behalf.
We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to any third parties. Page content is sent to Google's Gemini API as part of the summarization process, which is subject to Google's own privacy policy.
Your API key is stored locally on your device only. Summaries and folder data are stored on a private backend server and are not shared with any third parties.
